Sean's Park was built in conjunction with Opportunity Village, which provides life learning skills to adults with intellectual disabilities. Sean Morrissey is a gifted artist that shares his talents while learning to be a productive, happy and healthy individual. His parent's donation made possible the creation of a completely inclusive life learning center, the first of it's kind in the nation.
The park was designed to create outdoor life learning skills for patrons with learning disabilities while providing enjoyment for visiting families. Working closely with the Opportunity Village staff, a live "street crossing" was created complete with stop lights and crosswalk signs to teach street safety, a way-finding path to teach cognitive skills, a moonwalk to teach motor skills, a garden area where VIP's, as they are called, grow vegetables and fruit to use in learning to cook, an art display and craft area where VIP's like Sean can create and display their art, and other fun learning activities.
Being the nation's first life learning park makes Sean's Park not only unique, but ground breaking. The park is 100% accessible for all users and includes a wheel chair accessible swing. The park includes an outdoor bowling lane, shuffleboard court, mini golf course, sensory walls, inclusive playground, musical instruments, a community garden, picnic shelter, and an eighty foot diameter pavilion for community events. Since individuals with intellectual disabilities are sensitive to heat, dozens of cooling stations equipped with misters are located throughout the park to help reduce the severe temperatures in a Las Vegas summer.
